SEELOS IN FÜSSEN

 

 

 

 

The Shrine of St Peter & Paul in Cumberland are still awaiting the statue of Blessed Seelos to go in the newly built grotto,but they were not gonna let that dampen their spirits. Using a little savvy they came up with this to celebrate his feastday.Blessed Seelos served the Parish from 1857-1862.

Volunteers at The National Shrine of St Peter & Paul in Cumberland, Maryland have hit a problem justs a few weeks before the Feast of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos.They have been very busy building a Grotto in the grounds to house a statue of the great saint who was born in Füssen and ministered in their Parish. Months ago they had ordered a metre high stone statue of Blessed Seelos and were given a wait of two months. Now with the Feast almost upon us and the grotto standing ready,the supplier has again given them a two month wait. Due to the problems they have reached out to two firms in Germany to see if they can help. They are now waiting information and costs on a wood carved statue and a stoned carve one. Seelos in Füssen will keep you updated on the situation.

The stones in the pad of the Grotto and their significance

Stones to shape three crosses and a rock shaped like a heart were set in the pad of the Grotto. Three crosses for The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit and the heart that represents God’s love for us. The stones for the cross came from Beaver Island Lake Michigan and Hartford Connecticut. The heart came from a deep cave in the heart of Piney Mountain. This territory is said to be where some of the Church rock was cut. It happens that the cave from which the heart came is the deepest in the Northeast of the USA at present. The rock was found laying in the mud within this cave.

 

Our house, the Shrine of Blessed Francis X. Seelos & Welcome Center, and St. Mary’s Assumption Church were not damaged. The school suffered about half its roof shingles being torn off and damage to windows. Most likely, water damage too. The first and former Church of St. Alphonsus (no longer used in ministry) suffered significant damage. Our courtyard lost some beautiful trees. Minor issues for us, as I know of parishioners who have lost their roofs. So many, their livelihoods.I stayed until Wednesday to clean the fridges out. Most of the Redemptorist community is now dispersed through different communities in the Denver Province. The last few days have been difficult simply due to the heat and humidity. Not to mention the labor of life without electricity."

TheSeelos Welcome Center and Shrine will be closed until further notice due to power suppliers!

Zoe Cannon writing in "The Message", Southwestern Indiana`s Catholic Community Newspaper mentions about names and what they mean to us as Christians. She then mentions her grandson Xavier and how after watching "Tireless Intercessor" Blessed Seelos became very important to the family.

The Shrine of St Peter & St Paul in the Parish of Our Lady of the Mountains in Cumberland, Maryland, U.S.A. is to have a Seelos Grotto in the grounds behind the Shrine.

They anounced the news yesterday on their Facebook page.The Parish of Our Lady of the Mountains "have given their permission to the board of the Friends of the Shrine for a stone Grotto to be constructed in a designated area behind the Shrine outside. The hope is that the Stations of the Cross will be added to this area soon after. The Grotto will be dedicated to Blessed Seelos. A 36” statue is on order. Most likely the Grotto will be completed before the arrival of the statue.

Father Rich Boever, C.Ss.R    Director of the National Seelos Shrine in New Orleans has finally had his book about Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos published by Liguori publications. Father Rich wrote the book in the first person so it gives the impression that Seelos himself has written it and is telling you his own life story. Highly recommended read and many will be familiar with it due to its publication in episodes in the monthly "Seelos News" newsletter sent out by the National Seelos Shrine.

 The book costs $11 and is available from the Seelos Center  or Liguori Publications

Due to Hurricane Ida the National Seelos Center is closed Saturday August 28th until Monday 30th August 2021. The Center will reopen 1000hrs Tuesday 31st August 2021 if it is safe to do so.

 

A well known American singer,Trish Foti De Blanc released her new single on the Feast of St Mary Magdelan 22nd July 2021. The song "Come Unto Me" was written by her in 2014 and is based on the writings of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos.

Trish is well known in the US for her music and she began writing songs in 2014 hoping to finish a music project inspired by the writings of Blessed Seelos.Unfortunatly due to financial constraints the project is not yet completed.Trish told us that she came to know Blessed Seelos through her grandmother.She told us "As a young girl, growing up in New Orleans, I remember my Grandmother had a prayer card with his image. It intrigued me greatly. I developed a devotion to him at a young age. As a young woman, I had a stroke and credit Fr. Seelos for the strength to recover and keep me perfectly safe during the subsequent delivery of my second child. My Dad was also one of the doctors that scrubbed in on the Laverne Boudreaux miracle. Dr. David Weilbacher and he practiced medicine together for decades."
