Seelos Healing Mass seems not only to be held in New Orleans at St Mary`s Assumption Church,New Orleans.On 4th October 2019,Greg Terrabonne,a volunteer at the National Seelos Shrine was invited to give information on Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos at a healing at a local Parish in Houma where he lives outside the New Orleans area.Greg told us this was a very positive experience for him.He recently visited Füssen with his wife Peggy and were shown around by "Seelos in Füssen".

 

FÜSSEN CELEBRATES FEAST OF BLESSED SEELOS(5th Oct 2019)

After the 1800hrs 1st Mass of Sunday in St Mang Basilica,Füssen on Saturday 5th October the congregation were blessed at the Seelos Shrine.After the Mass which was offered for the repose of the soul of Prelate Karlheinz Knebel,(a great promoter of Blessed Seelos),the servers,Priest and Deacon processed to the Shrine of Blessed Seelos.

Here Father Rafael OFM and Deacon Hoffmann led prayers in honour and thanksgiving for the life of Blessed Seelos.They then blessed everyone individually with a first class relic of Blessed Seelos.Many in the congregation before they left were given a second class relic of Blessed Seelos.This was made possible by Greg & Peggy, two friends from Louisiana,U.S.A. who visited Füssen earlier this year.

Father Richard Boever C.Ss.R. has been appointed the new Director of the National Seelos Shrine in New Orleans,U.S.A.He moves from St Louis to his new post.He has also served previously in the National Shrine of Blessed John Neumann.Father Gilbert Enderle moves from Baton Rouge to be the new Shrine Administrator.

SEELOS 200TH ANNIVERSARY PILGRIMAGE TO FÜSSEN IN OCTOBER CANCELLED

Mary Perricone who was arranging the trip told us " sad news is that the trip in October had to be cancelled. We did not meet the quota of travelers by the deadline.

Father Grile found out he is being transferred to Seattle, Washington, and would not have been able to attend the trip!

We are heartbroken about this, and I hope in the future to have another pilgrimage there."

The Shrine of SS Peter & Paul Church, Fayette St., Cumberland, Maryland U.S.A. has long been associated with Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos.It was founded by Redemptorist,St John Nepomucene Neumann ,4th Bishop of Philidelphia.Blessed Seelos was in 1857 made Pastor & Prefect of students at the church and its associated monastory.

The church was made part of the Parish of "Our Lady of the Mountains" in 2011 along with 4 other churches.Interestingly for those who love Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, is the name  the Parish was given-OUR LADY OF THE MOUNTAINS!As any avid Seelos lover will know,he asked his sister to remember him in her prayers at the Shrine of Our Lady Of the Mountains (Frau am Berg Kirche)based in Füssen,Germany where he was born!

At all Masses on March 23/24, 2019,it was announced that the Shrine of SS Peter & Paul  would be among the 3 churches recommended to close in the Parish.It was reported in the Catholic Review,the Archdiocesan newspaper on 28th March 2019

The decision to recommend closure came after 2 years of consultation within the Parish according to sources.

Fr. Harry Griles C.Ss.R. Executive Director of the National Seelos Shrine in New Orleans  said " Sts Peter and Paul is the second most important site in the process of Blessed Seelos being canonized." He said he was going to contact Archbishop William Edward Lori of Baltimore regarding the matter. He also stated that there are graves, long lost behind the church which may have a bearing on the proposed closure!

Many within the Parish and beyond are very upset at the proposed closure of the Shrine and have set up a Save the Shrine Of SS Peter & Paul Facebook page.

BREAKING NEWS-"PILGRIMAGE TO BLESSED FRANCIS XAVIER SEELOS HOMELAND" LED BY FATHER HARRY GRILE C.Ss.R. Executive Director, NEW ORLEANS SEELOS CENTER POSTPONED TILL OCTOBER 2019 (14 Feb 2019)

Due to medical reasons,the  "PILGRIMAGE TO BLESSED FRANCIS XAVIER SEELOS HOMELAND" May 1-11 2019 has been postponed until October 2019.

Mary Perricone,who is arranging the Pilgrimage informed "Seelos in Füssen" exclusively 14th February 2019.She told us "The new dates will be October 9 through the 19, 2019.  It will be the same itinerary, and we will be there on the same days of the week.

We hope to be able to attend the Mass at St. Mang's on Sunday October 13, and the next day, Monday, at 9:30am, have Father Grile celebrate a private mass for our group, as previously planned."Father Grile,National Director of the Seelos Center in New Orleans will be leading the pilgrimage.

 

HISTORIAN ROBERT WORDEN SPEAKS ABOUT ST MARY´S CHURCH,ANNAPOLIS DURING THE CIVIL WAR

Historian Dr. Robert Worden's forthcoming book, "Soldiers of the Cross: Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos and the Catholic Community in Annapolis During the Civil War" goes into great detail about the impact of the war on Annapolis and specifically on the priests, brothers, seminarians, and parishioners of St. Mary's Church. He will present "untold stories" about some heretofore obscure members of the Catholic community, including both free and enslaved African Americans, European immigrants, and long-time residents. Dr. Worden is the long-time archivist and historian of St. Mary's Parish.

He will be the first speaker in  "The Anne Arundel County Trust for Preservation-St. John's College
2019 History Lecture Series".The lecture takes place at

BISHOP DAVID ALLEN ZUBIC TO LEAD PITTSBURGH PILGRIMAGE WHICH WILL VISIT FÜSSEN (13 December 2018)

The Bishop of Pittsburg,U.S.A. will be leading a Pilgrimage to Europe which will be visiting Füssen on Saturday October 3rd 2020.Bishop Zubric will celebrate Mass in St Mang Basilica

as well as leading prayers at the Shrine of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos which is located

at the rear of the Basilica on the left hand side.

Pilgrims will be shown the Spitalgasse and look at the plaque on the house where he was born.

They will also visit the Krippkirche where Francis Xavier Seelos served Mass daily

before school as well as the Frau am Berg Kirche where his sisters often prayed for him.

The Day in Füssen is part of a bigger pilgrimage which will visit Munich,Altötting,Oberammergau,Füssen,Innsbruck,Salzburg,Melk,Vienna,Prague.

Archbishop Gregory Almond of New Orleans Archdiocese, will celebrate Mass in honour of the 200th birthday of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, at 1300hrs on Sunday 13th January 2019 in St Mary's Assumption Church.He will also be the homolist.All are welcome to also partake the Sacrament of Reconciliation & the annointing of the sick.
