SEELOS STUDIES AT LUDWIG MAXIMILIAN UNIVERSITY-MUNICH

On 5th November 1839, Francis Xavier Seelos started his studies at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany. Here he studied Philosophy and Theology. He also learned fencing and how to dance which was normal culturally in those times. Seelos was also a great lover of music and learned to sing and play his violin.

ENGLISH GARDEN-MUNICH

The Englisher Garten (English Garden) is located 200 metres from the University and is a large public park created in 1789 by Sir Benjamin Thompson.  It has a total area of 3.7 km2 .Because of its proximity to the University Seelos is bound to have spent some of his leisure time walking and relaxing there.

Das Siegestor (Victory Gate)

The Victory Gate was not built until after Seelos finished his University studies. But it is one of Munich`s most important monuments and is located 100 metres to the left of the Ludwig Maximilian University.

Frauenkirche München

Seelos would have certainly visited the Cathedral in Munich called the Frauenkirche which was originally built by Duke Ludwig 2 in the 13th century. The Cathedral serves the Archdiocese of Munich & Freising. During WW2 the Cathedral was largely destroyed and reconstruction after the war with sub-standard materials meant the Cathedral was closed in 1990.4 years later a second restoration was completed.
