YEAR OF FAITH INDULGENCE AT SEELOS SHRINE NEW ORLEANS
(20 December 2012)

Pope Benedict XVI has called for a YEAR OF FAITH, a time of prayer and action to strengthen our faith and grow in our love of God and one another.  The Holy Father has instructed, that through the mercy of God, a plenary indulgence may be available throughout this year for those who choose to celebrate the Sacraments and prayer.  The global Year of Faith began October 11, 2012 and continues through November 24, 2013.

Most Reverend Gregory Aymond has designated 8 locations in the Archdiocese of New Orleans as places of pilgrimage where Catholics may receive the plenary indulgence.  The National Shrine of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos in Saint Mary’s Assumption Church is one of those locations.  The Archdiocesan Year of Family + Faith extends through December 31, 2013.

Suggested Order of Prayer to Gain the Indulgence for the Year of Faith:

·        Visit in pilgrimage one of the designated holy sites.

·        While there, participate in Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, Benediction, or another liturgical service.

·        Conclude the time of prayer and meditation by praying the Our Father, the Creed, a prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary and any prayer for the intentions of the Pope.

·        Within three days before or after the pilgrimage receive Holy Communion and the Sacrament of Penance (Confession).

·        Or, you may use this or a similar format:

1.      Begin with the Sign of the Cross and spend some time in quiet personal prayer.

2.      Read & reflect on the Creed or on a passage from Scripture.

3.      Conclude the time of prayer and meditation by praying the Our Father, the Creed, a prayer to the Blessed Mother and any prayer for the intentions of the Pope.

·        Within three days before or after the pilgrimage receive Holy Communion and the Sacrament of Penance (Confession).

Indulgences, which are granted through the mercy of God and the action of the Church, remove part (partial indulgence) or all (plenary indulgence) of the temporal punishment due to sins that have already been forgiven.

BLESSED SEELOS PUT FORWARD AS AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE FOR THE NEW EVANGELISATION WITHIN AUGSBURG DIOCESE(11 Dec 2012)

Prelate Karlheinz Knebel,Bishop's Vicar for Education and Culture within the Diocese of Augsburg,Germany, feels that Father Seelos would be an excellent example for the New Evangelisation and has proposed this to the new Auxilary Bishop of Augsburg,Florian Wörner and also to the Head of the YouCat Institute,Mr Meuser.Bishop Wörner was Diocesan Youth Chaplain before his elevation to auxilary Bishop and he is well loved by the young people of the diocese. This has been a very smart move by the former Vicar General of Augsburg & former Parish Priest of Fussen for over 20 years,Prelate Karlheinz Knebel,to bring the life of our friend in heaven,Blessed Seelos into the lives of young people in our diocese.Hopefully many will want to know more about him and choose him as an example to follow in their lives.
